Send email campaigns from Claude or ChatGPT

Ask Claude or ChatGPT to build, test and launch a JournoFinder email campaign to your media list, and approve it before it sends.

Written by Veronica Fletcher

Ask Claude or ChatGPT to create an email campaign, add your media list, write the pitch and send it from your own mailbox. Available on: annual plans. Not included in the 7-day free trial.

This works through MCP, the connection that lets Claude or ChatGPT use JournoFinder. A campaign is an email and its follow-ups sent to a set of people. A recipient is a person in a campaign. A mailbox is an email account you connect to JournoFinder.

Before you start

You need these in place:

  • JournoFinder connected to Claude or ChatGPT. The article "Connect JournoFinder to Claude, ChatGPT, or your own AI tool" shows how.

  • At least one mailbox connected in JournoFinder. See Send your first email campaign, step 1.

  • A media list with the journalists you want to pitch.

If you connected JournoFinder before you upgraded, restart your AI app or remove JournoFinder and connect it again. The AI app loads the list of JournoFinder tools when a chat session opens. Until you restart, it does not have the campaign tools. If they are still missing, see Outreach tools are missing in Claude or ChatGPT.

Build a campaign with the AI assistant

Send these requests one at a time, in this order. Use your own names and details.

  1. Create the campaign and add your list: "Start a campaign called Spring launch and add my UK fintech media list."

  2. Write the first email: "Write the first email pitching our new survey. Greet each journalist by first name."

  3. Read the email the AI assistant shows you. It shows the saved subject and the full body word for word. Ask for changes until it is right.

  4. Optional: add a follow-up: "Add a follow-up 3 days later."

  5. Send a test to yourself: "Send me a test." The test goes only to your own email address. Its subject starts with “[Test]”. Only the first email is sent as a test.

The campaign shows on the Campaigns tab in JournoFinder as soon as it is created.

Check the plan and launch the campaign

Warning: Launching sends real emails to every journalist on the campaign. You cannot unsend an email after it is sent.

  1. Ask for a launch check: "Get it ready to send from my Gmail, weekdays 9 to 5."

  2. Read the “Launch summary” the AI assistant shows. It lists the number of recipients, the mailbox, the sending hours, the start time, your monthly email use and any warnings. Nothing is sent at this step.

  3. If the summary says the campaign “can't launch yet”, ask the AI assistant to fix each problem it lists. Then ask for a new check.

  4. Reply "Yes, launch it." The AI assistant launches only after a clear yes to the latest summary. An unsure reply such as "I guess" is not a yes.

The AI assistant replies “Campaign launched” with the number of emails queued. If you gave a start time, it replies “Campaign scheduled” with the start time.

A launch check stops working after 30 minutes. It also stops working if you change the recipients or emails after the check. In both cases the AI assistant runs a new check and asks you again.

Each recipient gets the email inside the sending hours in their own time zone. Recipients with no known time zone get London hours, unless you name one time zone for the campaign.

What you still do in the JournoFinder app

The AI assistant cannot do these. Do them in JournoFinder:

  • Connect or reconnect a mailbox. Go to Outreach > Campaigns > Email Accounts.

  • Edit an email after the campaign has launched.

  • Stop a campaign for good with Stop campaign. The AI assistant can pause and resume a campaign.

  • See your teammates' campaigns. The AI assistant only shows your own.

Limits

These limits apply when you work through the AI assistant:

  • Up to 500 recipients per campaign.

  • Up to 4 follow-ups, each 1 to 7 days after the email before it.

  • Two merge fields (text JournoFinder fills in for each recipient): first name and your mailbox signature.

  • No images or text colours in emails.

  • The AI assistant can find your 25 newest campaigns. Open older campaigns in the app.
