When JournoFinder cannot launch an email campaign, a “Could not launch” message appears on the Launch step. The line under it says what is wrong. Find that line in this article and follow the fix. The most common cause is a mailbox that needs to be reconnected.
Nothing is sent when a launch fails. The campaign stays a draft, so you can fix the problem and launch again.
Check that your mailbox is connected
What you see:
“jo@example.com needs to be reconnected before it can send (Needs reconnect). Reconnect it in the app, then launch again.”
Why it happens: Your mailbox can no longer sign in to your email provider. A mailbox is an email account you connect to JournoFinder.
How to fix:
In the sidebar, under Outreach, click Campaigns.
Go to the Email Accounts tab.
On the mailbox's row, click Reconnect and sign in again.
Go back to your campaign's Launch step and click Launch campaign.
If you have another working mailbox, you can untick the broken one under Send from instead. Mailbox shows "Reconnect" or "Not sending or receiving" explains reconnecting each type of mailbox.
The same fix works for a message ending “is not connected. All selected accounts must be connected to send.”
Check that every email has text
What you see: one of these messages.
“The initial email has no content. Write it before launching.”
“Follow-up 1 has no content. Write it before launching.”
Why it happens: The first email or a follow-up has no text. Usually it is a follow-up you added and did not write.
How to fix:
Go to the Compose step.
Write the empty email, or click the bin icon to delete the last follow-up.
Go to the Launch step and click Launch campaign.
The same step fixes these two rarer messages:
“The initial email is 312 KB; the limit is 250 KB. Shorten it before launching — large pasted images are the usual cause.” Remove pasted images or long pasted text from that email. The sizes show your own email.
“Follow-up 2 needs a delay between 1 and 28 days (got null). Open the follow-up and choose one.” Next to “sends” on that follow-up, choose a number of days.
Check your monthly email limit
What you see:
“Your monthly email quota is exhausted (1000/1000 sent this month). Please contact support if you need higher limits.”
The numbers show your own count.
Why it happens: You have sent every campaign email your plan allows this month. The count starts again on the 1st of each month, UTC time.
How to fix:
Wait until the 1st of next month and launch again, or upgrade your plan.
To see your count and your limit, go to Preferences > Limits.
If you see “Your plan does not include outreach emails. Upgrade to start sending.”, upgrade to a paid plan. Email Outreach plans and limits lists the limits for each plan.
Check that the campaign has people to email
What you see: one of these messages.
“Campaign must have at least one recipient”
“Campaign must have at least one sendable recipient”
“Every recipient on this campaign has unsubscribed or reported spam. Nothing was sent.”
Why it happens: The campaign has nobody we can email. People with no email address, or with an address still to choose, are left out. So are people on your blocklist, the list of addresses your campaigns will never email.
How to fix:
Go to the Recipients step.
Add a media list or contacts, or choose an address for people marked “need a choice”.
Go to the Launch step and click Launch campaign.
Add journalists and contacts to a campaign explains each recipient status.
Check that the campaign has not already launched
What you see: one of these messages.
“Campaign must be in draft status to launch”
“Campaign is no longer in draft status”
“This campaign has been deleted and cannot be sent”
Why it happens: The campaign was launched, scheduled or deleted, often in another browser tab.
How to fix:
Go to the Campaigns tab. If the campaign shows “Sending” or “Scheduled”, it is already launched or scheduled. You do not need to launch it again.
The Launch campaign button is greyed out
A line under the button says why. This table lists each line and its fix.
Line under the button | Fix |
“Compose an email to enable launch.” | Write your first email on the Compose step. |
“No sendable recipients yet.” | Add people with an email address on the Recipients step. |
“Pick at least one sending day.” | Under Sending window, click at least one day. |
“Pick a start date.” | Under Start, choose a date, or choose Start now. |
If there is no line under the button, tick at least one mailbox under Send from.
Messages when you schedule a campaign
When you schedule a campaign, the message says “Could not schedule”. The mailbox and monthly limit fixes work the same way. We check the campaign again on its start date. If a check fails then, it goes back to “Draft” and nothing is sent.
Still not working?
If you see “Error launching campaign” or “Launch failed”, refresh the page, sign in again if asked, and retry. If it still fails, contact support. Send us:

the mailbox address you send from
the exact text under “Could not launch”
a screenshot of the Launch step
the time you tried to launch
