Add a person to your own contacts by hand, then edit, block or delete them later. Available on: all paid plans. Not included in the 7-day free trial.
A contact is a person you added yourself, by hand or from a CSV file. Contacts are separate from the journalists in the JournoFinder database. To add many people at once, see Import contacts from a CSV file.
Add a contact
In the sidebar, under Outreach, click Campaigns.
Go to the Contacts tab.
Click Add contact. The “New contact” page opens.
Enter a First name or a Last name. A name is the only thing you must fill in.
Optional: under Email addresses, enter an email address. Campaigns send to the address marked primary.
Optional: fill in any other details, such as Job title, Outlet, phone numbers, tags or a postal address.
Click Add contact at the bottom of the page.
The app shows “Contact added” and takes you back to your contacts list.
You can add a contact with no email address. Campaigns cannot email that person until you add one.
If you are at your contacts limit, the bottom bar shows a message when you click Add contact. For example: “contact limit reached (1000/1000)”. The first number is how many contacts you and your team have now. The second is your limit. See Email Outreach plans and limits.
If the app says the contact already exists
On the “New contact” page, JournoFinder checks the primary email address you enter. If that address is already on one of your contacts or your team's contacts, a yellow warning shows under the email rows:
“Already in your contacts: Jane Example (jane@example.com). Saving will create a second entry.”
The warning does not stop you saving. If you click Add contact, you get two separate contacts, and both count toward your limit. To change the existing contact instead, go back to All contacts and edit it.
The check does not look at names.
Fix a message in the bottom bar
You cannot click Add contact or Save changes while the bottom bar shows a red message about the form. The two most common are:
“A name is required”. Enter a first name or a last name.
“Fix the email addresses before saving”. Correct or remove the address marked “Not a valid email address”.
Edit a contact
On the Contacts tab, click the contact's row. Their details open in a panel on the right.
Click the pencil icon (Edit contact) at the top of the panel.
Change any details.
Click Save changes at the bottom of the page. The app shows “Contact saved”.
Anyone on your team can edit a contact. If the contact is in a draft campaign, the campaign picks up the new details.
Turn on do not contact
Do not contact is a setting on one contact that blocks all their email addresses. Campaigns skip them, for everyone on your team.
Open the contact's edit page, as in the section "Edit a contact".
In the Do not contact section, turn on the switch.
Click Save changes. The switch does nothing until you save.
The contact now shows a red “DNC” badge in your contacts list. You cannot add them to a campaign. Do not contact is not on the “New contact” page, so save the contact first.
Note: Do not contact blocks the addresses the contact has when you save. If you add a new email address later, turn the switch off, save, then turn it on and save again.
To stop blocking the contact, turn the switch off and click Save changes. If an address also bounced, the edit page tells you that address is still blocked.
Delete a contact
Open the contact's edit page, as in the section "Edit a contact".
In the Delete contact section, click Delete.
Click OK in the box that asks “Delete Jane Example? Their activity history is kept.”
The contact is removed from your list, and you go back to All contacts.
Warning: You cannot undo a delete. Anyone on your team can delete a contact. The emails you sent them and your notes are kept.
A deleted contact no longer counts toward your contacts limit. If the contact had do not contact turned on, their addresses stay blocked after you delete them.
