Find an email in the Unibox

Find replies and other emails in the Unibox by tab, folder, mailbox or campaign, or with search and search filters.

Written by Veronica Fletcher

Find any email in the Unibox (your shared inbox in JournoFinder) by switching views or by searching. Available on: all paid plans. Not included in the 7-day free trial.

A mailbox is an email account you connect to JournoFinder. A campaign is an email and its follow-ups sent to a set of people.

Switch between Primary and All

To open the Unibox, in the sidebar under Outreach, click Unibox. The Primary and All tabs sit above the email list.

  • Primary shows only conversations that belong to one of your campaigns. It opens by default.

  • All shows every conversation, including your normal email. It includes everything in Primary.

To see your normal email, click All. The Unibox remembers your choice the next time you open it.

If Primary is empty, you see “No campaign mail yet”. Click Show all mail to switch to All.

Note: A reply only shows in Primary if JournoFinder can match it to a campaign. If a journalist starts a new email instead of replying, check All.

Pick a folder, a mailbox or a campaign

  1. In the sidebar, under Outreach, click Unibox.

  2. Click All Inboxes at the top left of the email list. A panel opens over the list.

  3. Click one row:

    • A folder: All Inboxes, Sent, Spam or Archived.

    • A mailbox, under Inboxes or Team inboxes.

    • A campaign, under Campaigns.

  4. Optional: to find a mailbox or campaign by name, enter part of it in Filter campaigns & inboxes.

What each view shows:

  • Sent shows conversations where you sent at least one email.

  • Spam shows email your provider marked as spam in the last 30 days.

  • Archived shows conversations you archived in the Unibox.

  • A mailbox shows every conversation in that one mailbox, except archived ones.

  • A campaign shows every email in that campaign, including pitches with no reply yet. Only launched campaigns are listed.

For folders and mailboxes, the Primary or All tab you picked still applies.

Open the Unibox from a campaign

  1. In the sidebar, under Outreach, click Campaigns.

  2. Click a launched campaign. Its Overview tab opens.

  3. In the Recipients card, click the Unibox link in “Read and answer them here or in the Unibox.”

The Unibox opens with that campaign selected.

Clicking a person you have emailed in the Recipients card opens their conversation in a small window. To open it in the Unibox, click the Open in Unibox icon in that window.

Search your email

  1. In the Unibox, click the magnifying glass at the top right of the email list.

  2. Enter a name, email address or words from the subject or email in Search emails….

  3. Press Enter. The results show newest first.

Search always looks through all your mail, including Sent, Spam, Archived and mailboxes your teammates share with you. It ignores the view you had open.

To close the search, press Esc.

Search filters

Type filters in the search box, on their own or with other words. This table lists each filter.

Filter

Finds

Example

“from:”

Emails from a name or address. Part of a name works.

“from:guardian”

“to:”

Emails to a name or address.

“to:"Jane Doe"”

“is:unread” or “is:read”

Unread or read conversations.

“is:unread”

“has:attachment”

Emails with a file attached.

“has:attachment”

“after:”

Emails on or after a date.

“after:2026-07-01”

“before:”

Emails before a date. That date is not included.

“before:2026-08-01”

“"..."”

An exact phrase.

“"product launch"”

  • Use quotes when a name has a space.

  • Write dates as year-month-day.

  • Repeat a filter to find either value. “from:bbc from:itv” finds emails from either one.

  • Different filters must all match. “from:bbc has:attachment” finds emails from BBC with an attachment.

Each filter shows as a blue label under the search box. Click the X on a label to remove it.

If a filter is written wrong, the Unibox searches without it and shows a line in orange text, for example “Ignored before:yesterday — dates must look like 2026-07-01.”

Limits

  • Search needs at least 2 characters, unless you also use a filter.

  • The email list loads 50 conversations at a time. Search results load 30 at a time. Click Load more at the bottom of the list to see more.

  • The view panel lists 5 mailboxes and 20 campaigns at first. Click Load more to see more.
