Pause, stop or delete a campaign

Pause and resume an email campaign, stop it for good, cancel a scheduled start or delete a campaign.

Written by Veronica Fletcher

Pause an email campaign to hold its emails, stop it to cancel them for good, or delete it to remove it from your list. Who can do this: the person who created the campaign.

A campaign is an email and its follow-ups sent to a set of people. A follow-up is a later email in a campaign that sends if the person has not replied.

Pause a campaign

You can pause a campaign while it shows “Sending”.

  1. In the sidebar, under Outreach, click Campaigns.

  2. Click the campaign to open its Overview tab.

  3. Click Pause. The campaign shows “Paused”.

Or, on the Campaigns tab, click the three dots at the end of the campaign's row, then click Pause.

While a campaign is paused, every tab of the campaign shows “Paused. Nothing sends until you resume.” Follow-ups wait too.

Resume a paused campaign

  • On the campaign's Overview tab, click Resume. The campaign starts sending again at the next time its sending window allows.

If JournoFinder paused the campaign for you, fix the cause before you resume. See Campaign paused: "too many emails bounced" or My campaign is not sending.

Note: If you edit a paused campaign and then leave it, JournoFinder asks “Resume sending?”. Click Resume to start sending, or Stay paused to keep it paused.

Stop a campaign

Warning: Stopping cancels every unsent email in the campaign, including follow-ups. You cannot undo it.

  1. On the campaign's Overview tab, click Pause. Skip this step if the campaign already shows “Paused”.

  2. Click Actions, then click Stop campaign.

  3. Check the message. It says how many unsent emails will be cancelled, for example “12 emails not yet sent will be cancelled, including follow-ups. Anything already sent stays sent. This can't be undone.” The number is your own count.

  4. Click Stop campaign. You see “Campaign stopped”.

On the Campaigns tab, the campaign shows “Cancelled”. Inside the campaign, it shows “Stopped”. You can still open it to see its results.

You can also stop a campaign that is still sending. On the Campaigns tab, click the three dots at the end of its row, then click Stop campaign.

An email that was already passed to your mail provider still goes out. When you stop from the Campaigns tab, the message after you stop says how many, for example “12 queued emails cancelled; 1 already sent to the mail server and can't be recalled.”

You cannot add people to a stopped campaign. To email more people, create a new campaign.

Cancel a scheduled campaign

A scheduled campaign has a start date in the future and shows “Scheduled” on the Campaigns tab.

  1. On the Campaigns tab, click the three dots at the end of the campaign's row.

  2. Click Cancel schedule. The campaign shows “Draft”.

Your recipients and emails are kept. Before you launch again, check the mailboxes, start date and sending window on the Launch step.

Delete a campaign

Warning: You cannot restore a deleted campaign. Its results are gone from JournoFinder.

  1. On the Campaigns tab, click the three dots at the end of the campaign's row.

  2. Click Delete.

  3. Check the message. If the campaign is sending or paused, it says “Deleting it stops it first, and any queued emails are cancelled and won't be sent.” If it is scheduled, it says “Deleting it cancels the schedule, so it will never start.”

  4. Click Delete campaign. You see “Campaign deleted”, and the campaign leaves your list.
