Getting started with Reactives

What Reactives is, how it works, and how to set up your first client.

Written by Veronica Fletcher

Reactives watches the news for you and alerts you when a story breaks that your brand or client can comment on.

What Reactives does

When a big story breaks, journalists need comment on it fast, usually the same day. Reactive PR is getting your client into that coverage while the story is still running.

The hard part is spotting the right story in time. You tell us what your client can talk about. We watch the news and send you the stories that fit, along with the articles and journalists already covering them.

Reactives is included on all paid plans.

How it works

  1. Add a client and we write their alert brief for you.

  2. Choose how you get alerts. Instantly, in a roundup once or twice a day, or both, by email or in Slack.

  3. Let a few days of alerts come in.

  4. Edit the brief based on what you see.

  5. When a story is worth acting on, build your media list and send the pitch.

Add your first client

Go to Clients in Reactives and add the website of the brand you're working with. If there is no website, you can use a name and description.

We read the site and write a first version of the client's alert brief. It takes a few moments. The brief covers who the client is, the stories they can comment on, and the stories they should never be linked to.

Alerts start straight away. Each client gets its own brief and its own alert settings, so you can set them up differently.

Edit the brief early

The brief we write is deliberately broad, so your first few days of alerts show you the full range of stories your client could react to. The real value comes from tightening it after that. Clients with an edited brief get far more useful alerts.

The article Editing your alert brief shows you how.
