Stop emailing someone with the blocklist

Add email addresses to your blocklist so your email campaigns never contact them, and remove addresses you want to email again.

Add an address to your blocklist so your email campaigns never email it. Available on: all paid plans. Not included in the 7-day free trial.

The blocklist is the list of addresses your campaigns will never email. A campaign is an email and its follow-ups sent to a set of people.

What adds an address to the blocklist automatically

We add an address to your blocklist when:

  • the person reports your email as spam

  • the person replies and asks you to stop emailing them

  • your email bounces because the address does not exist, is invalid or is disabled

A bounce is an email that comes back because it could not be delivered. A full mailbox or a spam filter does not add the address. The Reason column on the blocklist shows why each address is there.

Add addresses to the blocklist

  1. In the sidebar, under Outreach, click Campaigns.

  2. Go to the Settings tab.

  3. Next to Blocklist, click View list.

  4. Click Add emails.

  5. Paste the addresses. Put commas or a new line between them. You can paste up to 1,000 at a time.

  6. Click Add to blocklist.

You see a message such as “3 addresses added to your blocklist”. The number shows your own count. If an address was on the list already, the message also says “1 already blocked”. Text that is not an email address is skipped and named in the message.

Campaigns that are already sending also stop emailing the address. We check the blocklist before each email sends. When you launch a campaign, people on the blocklist are skipped and named in the launch message.

Remove an address from the blocklist

  1. Go to Outreach > Campaigns > Settings. Next to Blocklist, click View list.

  2. Enter the address in Search by email address.

  3. Click the bin icon at the end of the row.

  4. Read the warning, then click Remove. To cancel, click Keep blocked.

You see “name@example.com removed from your blocklist”, with the address you removed.

For most addresses the warning says:

“Future campaigns that include name@example.com will email them again.”

If the person reported your email as spam, the warning is longer. It says emailing them can hurt your sender reputation and may break anti-spam law.

Warning: Only remove an address if you know it works again or the person asked to hear from you. You cannot undo a removal in the app. To block the address again, add it again.

Who the blocklist applies to

Your blocklist applies to you and everyone on your team. The Source column shows “You” for addresses you or your campaigns added, and “Teammate” for addresses a teammate or their campaigns added. Anyone on the team can add or remove an address. Your blocklist does not affect other JournoFinder customers.
