JournoFinder gives you access to journalists from around the world - whether you’re targeting English-speaking countries or other international markets.
🇨🇦 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 🇦🇺 English speaking counties (Canada, US, UK, AUS)
Finding journalists from these countries is simple:
1) Filter by location
Use the location filter to select the country you’re interested in. You’ll find these filters in both Google News Search and Article Search.
2) Search for relevant headlines
If you're looking for regional journalists within a country try headlines that mention your target region or city (e.g., “climate change Toronto” or “Sydney tech startups”) to surface journalists covering that area.
You can learn more about finding regional journalists here.
🌐 🌍 International Countries
JournoFinder supports journalists from all countries.
If you don’t see your target country in the location filters, this does not mean we don’t have journalists from that country.
You can still find relevant journalists using the techniques below.
If you don’t see your target country in our filters, reach out to our support team and we can look into adding it.
💡 Tip
If Article search isn’t returning as many results as you’d like for a particular country, try Google News search. This can surface journalists even if they’re not currently in our database. (We explain how in more detail below.)
📰 Using Google News search to surface international journalists
Option 1: Set the location filter (if available)
Select the country you want to target.
This will prioritise results from that location, though you may still see a few results from other regions (see note below).
If your country isn’t available, leave the filter as the default (US) and continue with the next steps.
Why am I seeing results from other countries when I have a location filter on?
Why am I seeing results from other countries when I have a location filter on?
Google News search ranks articles based on a number of factors include relevance and authority of outlets.
While the location filter boosts results from your chosen region, it isn’t a strict filter - authoritative outlets from other regions may still appear if the story is deemed relevant enough.
Option 2: Search in the target language
Enter your search query in the language of the country you’re targeting.
This will surface journalists and publications writing in that language.
Option 3: Use the site: operator
Limit your search to specific country domains using the site: operator.
For example:
Berlin Marathon site:.de
This will only return results from German websites.
Note: The site: operator is a true filter - you’ll only see results that match that domain.
⚡ How Google News search expands JournoFinder’s database in real time
Google News Search pulls live articles, extracts journalist names, and matches them to our database.
If we don’t find a match, our AI process automatically creates a new journalist profile for you.
You can then add these new journalists to your media list - and our team will later verify and complete the profile during the manual media list checks (including email, if available).
This allows you to discover journalists in countries where coverage in Article Search may be limited.
🗞️ Using Article search to surface international journalists
Option 1: Set the location filter
Choose your target country (if available).
This filter prioritizes outlets with a significant portion of their audience from that country.
If your country isn’t listed, don't worry, you can still find journalists from this country. Simply leave the location filter blank and use the techniques below.
Don’t see your country? Contact us - we may be able to add it as a filter.
Option 2: Set the language
Search in the language of your target region to surface journalists writing in this language.
It is important the language filter matches whatever language you have chosen to search in. By default, JournoFinder searches in English if no language is selected.
If you search in German, with the English language selected, your search will not work.
You can combine the location and language filters, for example:
English + Germany: English-language outlets with strong readerships in Germany.
German + Germany: German-language outlets for local audiences.
Option 3: Use the site: operator
Limit your search to specific country domains using the site: operator.
For example:
Berlin Marathon site:.de
This will only return results from German websites.
Note: The site: operator is a true filter - you’ll only see results that match that domain.
Option 4: Filter by outlet
If you already have a specific outlet in mind, use the outlet filter to search within that publication only.
🧑 Journalist search
Use Journalist search to filter by specific outlets from different countries and discover the journalists who work there (you can also do this via Outlet search.)
Search by job title or bio - Combine with the outlet filter to find journalists who match a specific role or area of expertise.
Search by location - Narrow results by country or region. Note: not all journalists have a location attached, so some may not appear.
🏢 Outlet search
Use Outlet search to find specific outlets from different countries and see the journalists we have on file for each outlet.
Text-based search → Matches the outlet name, not the URL (e.g., search “Daily Mail” instead of
dailymail.co.uk).AI-based search (purple sprinkles) → With this search you can use the URL directly.
Click into the outlet profile to see journalists matched with that outlet.
