How to use the bulk uploader with Ahrefs or Clicks.so

JournoFinder's bulk upload tool is really powerful combined with Ahrefs (or a similar tool, clicks.so is a cheaper option with some of the same capabilities).

There are two ways you can use them together.

Method 1: Analysing Similar Campaigns

When you’re ideating or outreaching for a campaign you will often come across some similar ones in the news.

The journalists who have linked to these campaigns are great candidates for your media list too and you can use Ahrefs / clicks.so to find these linking articles quickly.

I will use clicks.so for this example.

Take the URL of the campaign and paste it into your backlink tool.

Navigate to the link report and you should see all the news articles which have linked to the campaign.

Export the results.

You can then do some quick cleaning of the list, for example this campaign was first created in 2021 and then updated each year. I am only interested in the links from this year (2024) and maybe last year (2023) because any links beyond that will be too old to be relevant.

It is highly likely that the journalists who covered the story in 2021 and 2022 are no longer working in the same job.

I would also remove any spam links that are from low DR sites, and links from sites that won’t be receptive to outreach.

Once you have the list of article links, you can paste them into JournoFinder’s bulk upload.

And JournoFinder will automatically extract the journalists from the articles, so you can add them to your media lists.

Method 2: Ahref's content explorer

The second option is to browse the Ahref's content index to find relevant new stories, similar to using JournoFinder.

Navigate to the content explorer and search for a topic related to the campaign you are trying to get coverage for.

E.G. Here we’ve searched for ‘best cities for sports fans’, then filtered it to ‘news’ and ‘past 12 months’.

It’s important to filter it to recent news stories, otherwise you will get a lot of irrelevant results.

Once you have the results you can export the results and put the links into JournoFinder’s bulk upload tool to extract the journalists.
